The Era of Kara Mustafa Pasha within the Austrian-Turkish History. From Mogersdorf to Buda (1664–1686). – New Aspects of Military and Cultural History. A structural comparison.
The graduate programme of the University of Vienna offers a multitude of lessons at the various departments which are directly or indirectly connected to the Austrian-Turkish past. This enourmous offer on Turkey-specific lessons at the University of Vienna has its reasons in the fact that Austrian historiography would not be able to work on its own past if it didn`t pay attention to the Ottoman-Turkish contribution in history. Due to this reason and especially because of the very important historical and geographic situation of Vienna, the Austrian School has developed as one of the leading scientific centers worldwide, favored by the particularly rich stock of sources which have fostered research on Turcology. In the past centuries, Austria as well as the Ottoman Empire/Turkey have gained a very important position in each other's historiography. At the Symposium, rennomated scientists from EU-coutries (Austria, Germany and Great Britain)and two candidate countries (Turkey and Hungary) are participating. The symposium will take place at October 1 and 2, at the Barocksaal of the Altes Rathaus, Wipplingerstr. 8, 1010 Vienna. New aspects on the mutual history are worked on and discussed about; the Museum of Military History is going to publish the results of this symposium in an own publication. The conference languages are German and English.
